We’re building a growing list of community partners in Metro Detroit who are dedicated to helping adults who struggle with reading. Add your voice to the movement of people committed to advancing adults up literacy levels so that they may join the workforce of today and promote a learning environment at home.
We believe that every adult in our community should be able to read well enough to perform essential day-to-day tasks. That means that every adult in our community should be able to complete a job application, read a medicine bottle, comprehend a food label or fill out a school form. We believe that to truly rebuild our community, we must invest in our people. And the best way to start the rebuilding effort is to begin at the foundation. If we can repair basic literacy skills – the most fundamental building block – we are on our way to transforming Metro Detroit.
This is the first time that the community has joined together to tackle this issue. Yes, it will take a collective and coordinated effort to help the large number of adults in Metro Detroit who are functionally illiterate, but Reading Works is ready to lead this initiative. The adults benefiting from these efforts are our neighbors. Imagine what your life would be like if you could not read. By taking this pledge, you are joining a growing movement of people, companies, nonprofits, faith-based organizations and educational institutions who have joined forces to tackle the issue of low-literacy amongst adults. You believe that all adults in Metro Detroit should be able read.
